Bishop, Diocese of the Missouri Valley

The Rt. Rev. Stephen D. Strawn, Rector of St. John's Anglican Church in Quincy, IL was consecrated as a bishop of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church on Saturday October 13th at St. John's to serve the Diocese of the Missouri Valley in the Anglican Church in America (ACA). The ACA is the American Jurisdiction of the worldwide Traditional Anglican Communion (TAC). He was consecrated by The Most Rev. Louis W. Falk, Bishop Ordinary of the Diocese of the Missouri Valley and retired Primate of the ACA and TAC; The Rt. Rev. George Langberg, Bishop Ordinary of the Northeast and President of the House of Bishops; The Rt. Rev. Wellborn Hudson, retired Bishop of the Armed Forces; The Rt. Rev. Daren Williams, Bishop of the Diocese of the West; and The Rt. Rev. Michael Gill, Bishop of South Africa –Traditional Rite.
After twenty seven faithful years in the episcopacy, Abp. Falk retired as Bishop Ordinary of the Diocese of the Missouri Valley (DMV) on December 31, 2007 and was succeeded by Bp. Strawn as the second Bishop of the DMV. Bp. Strawn was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. In 1981 he married Annette Monier, also of Dallas. A year later they moved to the small East Texas town of Malakoff where they lived 21 years raising their four daughters, Angelique, Christine, Tiffany and Miranda. Prior to entering Holy Orders, Bp. Strawn's secular career included twelve years in retail management, two years in substance abuse counseling, two years as a vocational evaluator, and ten years as a vocational rehabilitation counselor for the State of Texas. Bp. Strawn received the Sacrament of Holy Baptism at St. George's Episcopal Church in Dallas in 1958 and Holy Confirmation at a 1970 regional confirmation at St. Michael and All Angel's in Dallas. Before ordination Fr. Strawn served in several lay ministries. Fr. Strawn earned his Associate in Science Degree at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas and his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of Texas at Tyler. His Theological education was done at The Anglican School of Theology in Dallas, Texas. He has completed additional courses at the Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio. He has also participated in training programs for the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, a children's formation ministry and the Alpha Program. Bp. Strawn has also completed the Nehemiah Leadership and Ministry Management Training, an intense program offered by Tentmakers Ministry in Minneapolis, MN and Bridge Builders Relational Skills Training, also offered by Tentmakers Ministry.
Bp. Strawn was ordained Deacon in January 1993 by the Rt. Rev. William Millsaps, then Episcopal Visitor to the Diocese of the Southwest (ACA). He was ordained priest by Abp. Falk the following August. After serving as an assistant under The Rev. Canon Vernon Grosvenor, he became the Rector of St. Stephen's Anglican Church in Athens, Texas serving there for almost 10 years. He became the Rector of St. John's Anglican Church in Quincy, IL March of 2003. In Quincy. Bp. Strawn has been active in community ministry as a Chaplain at Blessing Hospital. He also serves the hospital as a volunteer at their "Hospitality House" (similar to a Ronald McDonald House). He has served as a member of the Community Focus Board at Sycamore Health Care Center and was instrumental in the implementation of Young Life in the Quincy area. Once off the ground, Bp. Strawn served as Chairman of the Mission Committee of Quincy Area Young Life. Young Life is now a thriving ministry in the area. At the diocesan level, Bp. Strawn has served as Regional Dean and on the Board of Examining Chaplains in the Diocese of the Southwest (DSW/ACA). He also served as President of the DSW Standing Committee. Prior to his consecration he served as President of the Standing Committee and as the DMV Clergy representative to the Executive Council.
